TDK demonstrates ultrathin retinal-projection optics for smart glasses

TDK has demonstrated a direct retinal-projection prototype that uses a 150-nanometre meta-optic mirror embedded in the lens. The company reports about 80% visible-light transmission; full-colour output remains a future development goal.
Why it matters
The approach could make future display glasses look more like ordinary eyewear by reducing optical bulk and keeping lenses transparent. It is still a component prototype, so it does not change today’s product choices or availability.
